Gingerbread Walk

Belleville’s Gingerbread Walk is a self-guided tour through downtown where you can explore the art of area residents who designed and built award-winning gingerbread creations. There are entries from people in every age group. These gingerbread creations are displayed in downtown merchant windows starting at the Square on East and West Main Streets.

Christkindlmarkt

Friday, November 24-Saturday, December 23

Monday-Thursday: 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

Friday-Saturday: 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.

Sunday: 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

The fourth year of this German Christmas Market, hosted by downtown Belleville shops, features a performance by Head East on Friday, November 24 at 7 p.m. Throughout the Christmas season, shoppers can enjoy authentic German food and drink, special demonstrations, and entertainment. The market ends December 23, just in time to get those last-minute Christmas gifts! Located in downtown Belleville.

Belleville Gingerbread 5K Walk/Run

Saturday, December 2

Start: 8:30 a.m.

The race has a new start location this year: 510 W. Main Street (where it will also finish). The awards presentation will take place at the Lincoln Theater at 103 E. Main Street. Register for the race online or come to cheer on the runners and walkers.

 

Shopping Through Our Past

Saturday, December 2

9:00 a.m.-Noon

Visit the Victorian House Museum in Belleville to learn what shopping was like in the past. Put on by the St. Clair County Historical Society, this event will allow you to you explore special exhibits, play games, and enjoy hands-on activities to really get a feel for the history of commerce.

Gingerbread Cookie Day

Saturday, December 9

9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Take a 5K stroll through the streets of downtown Belleville, collecting cookies all the way. Pre-registration is recommended as cookie bags are limited, although you don’t need to register if you’re only walking and not collecting cookies. While meandering down the streets, you can enjoy Christmas carolers, barbershop music, and the Christkindlmarkt.

$10 fee.

Belleville Historic Luminary Walk

Saturday, December 9

5:00-9:00 p.m.

During this special holiday event, the streets of downtown Belleville are lined with candle-filled luminaries. Enjoy a festive walk around Abend and Garfield streets while you tour the Koerner House, Garfield Street Saloon, and Emma Kunz House museums.

Christmas Wonders

Sunday, December 10

7:00 p.m.

Located at the St. Luke Catholic Church in Belleville, this annual holiday concert is performed by the Belleville Philharmonic Society chorale ensemble and features holiday songs and carols.

General admission tickets are $15.

The Glory of Christmas

Sunday, December 10 and Monday, December 11

7:00 p.m.

Held at the St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Belleville, the Glory of Christmas is a musical drama that includes choir and orchestra performances, a drama troupe, and a parade of wooden soldiers. It explores the story of Christ’s birth and what it means to the modern world.

Fine Arts Holiday Concert

3:00 p.m.

As part of the St. Paul UCC Fine Arts series, there will be a holiday concert at the church, located at 115 West B Street. Take a break from holiday stress and enjoy an afternoon of lovely Christmas music.

Ringing of the Bells

Noon

This Belleville tradition goes all the way back to 1914 and was recently revived in 2014. Everyone is invited to the Belleville Public Square to ring in the new year. Bring your dinner bells, cow bells, and jingle bells to start the year in style.
